Pitch 14bit !

PostWed May 11, 2016 6:18 pm

I just realized that by using "MIDI Channel Splitter" module with modular on "omni" midi channel, one could get 16 (one by channel) 14 bit CC via pitchbend A or pitchbend S module !! The benefit with any other 14bit cc is that pitchbend is the only one drawable easily in a daw midi track !

I think from now, I'm going to keep an entiere midi I/O for modular and work in 14bit all the time !

Gonna check this out right away...

Also, the Mackie HUI "standard" uses pitched info across channels for the sliders...so any hui compatible device will give you control over your modular using 14bit ;)

My BCF 2000 does this too.. But 14 bit midi CC are not drawable easily in a DAW midi track... Pitch is 14 bit and is very easy to draw ! ;)

I wasn't clear...the HUI standard has 1 midi channel's pitch bend on each slider. So the controller is limited to 16 sliders max, but software allows the remap of each channel pitch bend to various controls in the software.

In the end, pitch bend is also a more efficient way to send 14bits than two CC messages is for the same 14bit control. Although it is limited to 1 pitch bend per midi channel.
